The ageing of the population is one of the main challenges for the future twenty or thirty years for the industrialized and developing countries. In this complex framework, technologies and related scientific knowledge already have and will have a growing meaningful role in the identification of problems and opportunities for the development of future scenarios in an Ageing Society.
Intergenerational issues and common living spaces (houses, cities and the related infrastructural interfaces) reveal new meanings in interactions due to the impact of information and communication technologies (ICT), and offer the opportunity to develop a multidisciplinary approach to the challenge of the Ageing Society.
The Summer School is promoted by the PhD School of Computer Science of the University of Milano-Bicocca and by Higher Educational Project “ALIAS – Alta Formazione e Internazionalizzazione nell’Ageing Society)”. The aim of the School is to gather Ph.D. and Master students as well as Post‐Doctoral researchers (from Italian and foreign Universities and Research Centres) for a residential intensive one-week program allowing to acquire knowledge and methods to face problems and exploit opportunities related to the demographics affecting our society and the impact of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in shaping our technological and social future.
In the wide range of problems and scientific/technological opportunities coming from different disciplines, the School will focus the design of technologies for the ageing society that has to take the elderly people as the focus of attention to define methods of investigation, requirements, functionalities and deployment of technologies that have to be put to work with different purposes and in various contexts. The other main focus of the School will concern the design and organization of urban spaces, aged-friendly housing, buildings, facilities and services stimulating participation and active ageing by providing adequate levels of comfort and accessibility for aged citizens.
